Morrisons has unveiled the ‘daddy of all steaks’, dubbed the ‘Tomahawk’. Dads with a mighty appetite can take on the 42oz* meaty challenge this Father’s Day, Sunday 19th June.
Weighing in at a colossal 1.2kg* (42oz/2.625 lb), the Tomahawk is six times heavier than an average 198g (7oz/0.4375 lb) steak. A similar meaty slab will set you back a whopping £77 at a London restaurant**, but Morrisons will be selling the steak in the run up to Father’s Day for only £15, meaning those same restaurant diners could be paying 413% more.
The steak is called the Tomahawk because it resembles the large native American axe. A cut above the rest, tender and bursting with flavour, the Rib Eye Steak is aged for 14 days, trimmed and sold with the bone in to enhance the flavour.
At 35.56cm (14 inches) long and 20.32cm (8 inches) wide on average, Morrisons shoppers will have the ‘rare’ chance to try this unusual delicacy for a limited time only.
Morrisons butchery expert, Darren Spauls says: “The Tomahawk will offer dads this Father’s Day the ultimate carnivore experience, however if you can’t defeat the beast alone, the steak will serve two to three people.”
Darren recommends cooking the steak by frying and sealing it first, for around three minutes each side, before browning in the oven for a further 25 minutes for a medium steak.
The Tomahawk is guaranteed to get tongues wagging at the dinner table. This massive bone-in steak is tender, has bags of flavour and Dad will love its marbled texture.
“We’re sure that jaws will drop when customers see the Tomahawk at our butchers counters.”
The Tomahawk steak will be available from Morrisons Market Street butcher counters UK-wide at £15 for a limited time, from Thursday 16th June until Sunday 19th June. For more information or to find your local store please visit morrisons.com
