The Bank Holiday weekend was blessed with some glorious weather which just added to the success of this year’s Streetfest in Shoreditch London which was attended by families, music and art fans, urban fashionistas, as well as skating and BMX scene lovers.
The set up was much improved from previous years, with the unsigned section being given it’s own small venue and the BMX, Skating demos getting priority spaces inside and out with dedicated halfpipes and obstacle courses. There was also a wealth of food stalls and fashion and accessories stalls featuring up and coming urban fashion brands including Urban Nerds.
There were some roof raising performances from DJ Vadim, Dot Rotten, Saskilla and US Rapper Oddisee but the highlight of the day was an encore-rousing performance of the magical and inspired Tawiah. Headlining on the unsigned stage, she performed her new single “Lonely Ones” and was forced to reload by the host G.R.E.E.d.S after the crowd erupted, the second time round the audience sang along and joined Tawiah for an a capella chorus. Then after her set she was once again demanded on stage for an encore and performed her first release “Every Step” which the crowd knew, almost word for word. It was a special performance and one of those “you had to be there” moments.
Streetfest can get better though and we’re looking forward to seeing how much more awesome it will be in 2014!
